Online Love – Wedding at Il Viccolo – Eimear & Francis

Online dating has been a thing for a while now, but todays couple had an online wedding with a live Facebook stream and their own hashtag for the day…. #MeetTheFinans

This was definitely a different one but boy did I enjoy it. Francis and Eimear originally met online and wanted to reflect this in their big day. Equally with Eimear having a background in acting they went with a very unique venue – The O’Donoghue Theatre in NUI Galway

The venue itself is classic theatre style layout with tiered seating. I did have some concerns with how dark the room was with black walls but after a few sample shots it was easy to see it actually lent itself to the ambience of the whole ceremony. Or maybe I should say performance! This was unlike any wedding you’ve been to with everything live streamed to Facebook for others to see. We had an MC, open mic session, improv pieces and sporadic singing from the guests!

After what was a very interesting ceremony we spent some time taking photos in and around the grounds of NUIG while still getting what was one of the nicest days of the summer. NUIG is full of interesting spaces and architecture that make it just perfect as a location for wedding shoots. The next part of our day was just a short spin away as we were off to the wonderful Il Viccolo restaurant at The Bridge Mills in Galway City. Its a wedding photographer secret to be able to leave the venue at the same time as the couple yet arrive before them at the meal location with all your gear ready to go and capture a shot of them walking through the door!

The crew in Il Viccolo were fantastic it has to be said. With the wedding being so casual and relaxed there were lots of kids on the day and they did such a good job of accommodating this with the kids having their own area as well as a cake just for them.

We had speeches on the balcony of the restaurant overlooking the river on a sunny Galway day with friends and family enjoying the view and the relaxing mood of the day. Its always a nice indicator of a venue when I see how they relate to the other vendors on the day. Alex and Gerry were so easy going to work with, and kept me full of coffee and even made sure I was fed when I had a  chance to eat as Francis and Emer had arranged. Alex also did a great job of working with me to get a few minutes here and there between course to take some more photos of Francis and Emer. I really couldn’t recommend them enough.

This day showed again that it’s crucial that you embrace the personalities of the couple you’re working with. While it was a very different day than the usual weddings it was still a special day for Eimear and Francis and no matter what its up to me to make them feel relaxed and get some special moments. While they had said back when we first spoke that they weren’t looking for anything too styled or posed I was delighted that they gave me just a few minutes of their time to get some beautiful images from each location to remember their day.
